The Thing About Protein
The thing about protein…
You’ve probably heard the rule of thumb: aim for about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. For most people—including me—that’s no small task. It takes serious intention.
But here’s the thing: my body is a rebel and doesn’t like rules.
I’ve spent years experimenting with what’s considered healthy—cutting out coffee, fasting from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m., avoiding sugar, dairy, wheat, green smoothies, you name it. The trials have been endless.
I remember once feeling genuinely sad about the idea that I might never eat my beloved blueberry scones guilt-free again.
Where I’ve landed is this: I need to trust myself and my body’s signals.
So instead of obsessing over hitting a specific protein number each day (and feeling like I’m constantly failing), I’ve started paying attention to how I feel after a high-protein meal.
Here’s what I’ve noticed:
✅ More protein makes me feel calmer and grounded.
✅ It helps curb mid-afternoon snack cravings.
✅ And most importantly—it feels good in my body.
So instead of chasing a number, I focus on that feeling. Because when I do, the reward is real. And who doesn’t want that?
If you’re looking for simple ways to sneak more protein into your day, here are a few fun recipes I’m excited to try:
🥯 Greek Yogurt Bagels
🥢 Cabbage Spring Rolls
🍕 High-Protein Pizza
And if anyone has a great high-protein blueberry scone recipe, please send it my way!
