Raw Vs Coated Linen

After a 2 year test period where we introduced select products in a Raw linen finish and used prototypes extensively in the field, SoYoung has made the decision to offer all of our lunchbox, backpacks and cooler bags in a Raw Linen blend fabric.

The difference in the products may not be fully evident from the photos on our website, as the core material remain the same

Coated Linen Products

The coated linen products have a thin layer of EVA on the exterior giving the products a water resistant coating. The original reason for this was that it allowed minor spills to be wiped directly off the products. However the coated products can not be entirely immersed in liquids as it could get trapped under the coating, making it frustrating to clean thoroughly.

Raw Linen Products

While the raw linen has a porous nature, tough stains such as ketchup just require a little bit of scrubbing to remove. The biggest advantage of the new products is that they can be completely immersed in water, making them machine washable and dishwasher safe. You can then simply lay them out to dry overnight. Putting them into a hot dryer is NOT recommended as it may shrink or melt certain materials in the bag.

The new products also feel better. In our opinion, the raw linen finish has a tactile texture that makes the products look and feel more natural.
